2020 Biomedtracker / Datamonitor Healthcare Post-ASCO Report

June 24, 2020

The 2020 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) was held virtually online on May 29-31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This post-meeting report features commentary from our analysts on key presentations given virtually at the conference as well as a compilation of all data events added to Biomedtracker in conjunction with the meeting.

The 2020 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference looked very different this year - not only in location, but in content and delivery. For the first time, the conference was held virtually because of the COVID-19 virus concerns. This year, we saw more complete data released on abstract night than any previous year. On the other side, there are less abstracts reported than normal. In 2019, the Biomedtracker ASCO planner covered over 2,000 poster sessions compared to just over 400 in 2020. There were over 1,200 oral presentations planned for ASCO 2019, but just slightly over 300 for 2020. We believe the reasoning for the lack of abstracts is not a lack of available data, but rather the COVID-19 virus taking hold of China well before the abstract submission deadline and disrupting subsequent submissions.
