2008 Pre-ASCO Report

May 12, 2008

This year's annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting will take place on May 30 through June 3 in Chicago, Illinois. For the first time in the meeting's history, all abstracts (except for late-breaking abstracts and those designated for the Plenary session) will be released to the public prior to the meeting, on Thursday, May 15th, at 9:00 PM (EDT). Late-breaking abstracts and abstracts slated for the Plenary session will only be made available during the meeting.

The biggest story at this year's meeting is ImClone's Erbitux. Two Erbitux abstracts will be presented at the Plenary session: one on Erbitux in first-line non-small cell lung cancer (the FLEX study), and the second on the predictive nature of KRAS status in colorectal cancer patients receiving Erbitux in the CRYSTAL study.

Other significant presentations include more data for other targeted therapies that will help to further cement their use in established indications or provide important new data for earlier lines of treatment. An important component of this year's meeting will be continued discussions on how best to optimize the use of targeted therapies, including the use of biomarker studies to help find appropriate patients for each drug. We have highlighted some of the more interesting presentations in our report. We have also included a list of some of the more pertinent talks and posters for your perusal.
