2008 Post-ASCO Report

June 17, 2008

This year's annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting was held in Chicago, Illinois on May 30 - June 3. The biggest stories at this year's meeting were the FLEX data of Erbitux in first-line non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the effect of KRAS status on EGFR inhibitors. The KRAS presentations were especially interesting as this oncogene is now set to become the first biomarker for identifying appropriate patients for these targeted therapies in metastatic colorectal cancer, thus preventing patients who will not respond from wasting their time and resources, and saving them from adverse effects associated with these agents. Other interesting presentations include novel new agents for prostate cancer that are helping to redefine "hormone-resistant prostate cancer". We have highlighted some of the more pertinent studies below; this is followed by a comprehensive list of oral and poster presentations that were added from the meeting.
