2009 Pre-ASCO Report

May 14, 2009

Abstracts from the 2009 annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting were released today at 6pm EDT. This 2009 annual ASCO meeting will be held in Orlando, FL from May 29 through June 2. While this year’s meeting will have far fewer market moving events than seen in previous years, there are still some interesting data that will be presented. The most exciting of these is Tarceva as maintenance therapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Other interesting data include the Avastin survival data in breast cancer, Avastin in adjuvant colorectal cancer and early data of Avastin and Cilengitide in first-line glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Also, as has been the case in the last few years, ASCO is offering semiannual updates on many compounds that are usually featured at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) meeting held annually in December. This year we will see data possibly leading to a change to the normal dosing schedule of Rituxan in diffuse large-B-cell lymphoma, as well as updated data from omacetaxine mepesuccinate in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and an exciting early stage Velcade follow-on compound, Carfilzomib, in multiple myeloma.
