2009 Post-ASCO Report

June 25, 2009

The 2009 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) was held in Orlando, Florida from May 29 through June 2. Some of the most anticipated presentations included data from the Tarceva and Alimta studies as maintenance therapy in first-line non-small cell lung cancer. Late-breaking and notable presentations also included full data from the failed NSABP C-08 study of Avastin in adjuvant colorectal cancer, positive but underwhelming results from a Phase III study of Biovaxid (a therapeutic vaccine) in follicular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and promising Phase II data from a new class of compounds, the PARP inhibitors, for the treatment of breast cancer. We also found the discussion on the role of immunotherapies for the treatment of castrate-resistant prostate cancer enlightening given the recent positive data from the Provenge IMPACT study.

These and other noteworthy presentations are detailed in the report. We have also included a comprehensive list of oral and poster presentations that were added from the meeting.
