Antibiotics Report, Part II: The Inpatient Antibiotics Market

October 01, 2014

This report, the second in our series on antibiotics, describes the drug market for serious inpatient or healthcare-associated infections. This report provides analysis on the following topics:
  • Market potential for new agents for inpatient infections, including current standard-of-care drugs and analyses of available clinical and preclinical data for agents in development.
  • A discussion of common types of inpatient infections, with description of causative pathogens, current treatments, and areas of unmet need.
The first report in this series provided introductory material on antibiotic development through the years, background of the general epidemiology of infections, and a primer on mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. The third report in this series will provide analysis on the outpatient or community-acquired infections market, with information on drugs currently in development, market potential, and disease epidemiology.

For subscribers, we also provide a supplemental slidedeck summarizing characteristics of recently-approved antibiotics and antibiotics in active development, which can be downloaded here.

We are also performing two surveys of infectious disease specialists on antibiotics prescribing patterns and treatment priorities. The full results will be available through our KOL Insight service.
