January 25, 2024

Sarcomas are a group of rare cancers of the connective tissues. The connective tissues include the blood vessels, nerves, muscles, linings of joints, tendons, deep skin tissues, fat, bones, lymph vessels, fibrous tissues, and cartilage. Sarcomas usually affect the legs, trunk, and arms. They also occur in the intestines, stomach and behind the abdomen, and in the reproductive system of women. Sarcomas can begin in any body part; 60% of sarcomas start in the arms and legs, 30% in the abdomen or torso, and 10% in the head or neck. They are rare in adults, constituting approximately 1% of all adult cancers, while in children, sarcomas account for about 15% of cancers.
