All ReportsDatamonitor Healthcare Respiratory: Allergic Rhinitis Disease Coverage
July 12, 2018
Allergic rhinitis is a highly prevalent yet largely underdiagnosed chronic inflammatory disorder of the nasal mucosa, mediated by
inappropriate
inflammatory responses to environmental allergens including pollen and mold. The disease is characterized by the presence of pruritus,
sneezing, rhinorrhea, and nasal congestion. These symptoms can have a negative effect on physical, social, and psychological wellbeing, as
well as school performance in children. There is currently no disease definition that is widely and consistently applied in clinical or
epidemiological use, and diagnosis is usually symptom-based.
